>> Profile
Beth Marchant is an artist living in Richmond, Virginia. After
receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art from Salem College in
Winston-Salem, NC, she worked for several publishing companies and
graphic art studios. She began a freelancing business in 1984, specializing
in perspective drawings of homes for builders and developers. At the same
time she started receiving commissions for watercolor portraits and pen and
ink drawings of homes in and around Virginia. Additionally, in 1990 she
began taking commissions for drawings of children and pets. Her portraits
are not only realistic, but they also convey a true sense of the subject's
character.
Every few years she accumulates enough work for a showing of her oil and
watercolor landscapes. Whether color or black and white, Beth's art style is
characterized by her beautiful realism and regard for the effects of light
on her subjects. The works of John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer and more
recently John Stobart and Raymond Kinstler have greatly influenced her art.
She has participated in workshops with watercolorists Robert Wade and Tom
Lynch, and oil painters Roger Dale Brown, Vicki McMurry, Dawn Whitelaw and
Raymond Kinstler. The workshops with Whitelaw and Kinstler have been
instrumental in launching her oil portraiture.
Beth and her husband Ry, who is an attorney, own and run
